I used a small machine vice and a thick washer to press the plate on.
I mentioned elsewhere it also helps if you put the O-rings on correctly first, because it's a b8stard to get the plate off again without damaging them... :oops:

sledgehammer and a lump hammer - lying on my side. Balls - won't do it that way again its footrest hanger off and do it on a vise next time. 8)

Cut my old (knackered) chain off with a dremel, handy little tool.

Before the VTR I've had bikes with shafts for a few years, but before that i always used to use split links... have they gone out of fashion or won't they stand the torque?

Never had a problem with one before....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Yeah, rivetted chain is stronger (split link about 70% the strength of rivetted link).
