My TDM is having the valve clearances done today, plus acouple of other things I haven't the tools to do. I loaned an 08 Fazer Thou unfaired from the dealer and put £10 petrol in it (very hard to stop dead on a tenner now as the numbers change so fast!)
Wind the throttle on and hold on. Very fast until the windblast is too much, but it is not too bad up to three figures. Amazing how tractable it is too - I was always forgetting which gear I was in.
But, the constant buzzing of the chain saw beneath would just get on my nerves after a while. I can honestly say I prefer twins, even if they are lumpier at low revs in higher gears.
Pretty amazing watching the rev needle fly round though!

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Yeah I must admitt , they are a nice looking bike.
I visited our local dealer some time ago and sat on one, nice size, good ride position and felt just right.
I stopped at crawly service station last sunday on way home from seeing parents, chatting to a couple of lads there. They had bikes wid no screens on and they wished they had cause they were covered in dead bugs. :lol
Good news is , a flash of gleming caught my eye whilst doing this.
It was a nice gleaming blue metallic vtr sat there giving me the eye.
Yeah yh got it, sat on it fell in love, left it there, read all the reports on them . Looked around for one on private sale ( hell of a lot cheaper ) and bought the vtr instead .

The only time I wish for a screen/fairing is when I'm sitting on the motorway for a while, any other time (ie proper decent roads with bends in em) I'd rather have a naked bike.
That said...I noticed more than usual on the recent trip to Germany that the comfort factor is a bit of a barrier to doing any real distance, and not really from the screen as I can happily cruise sitting up at 80-85mph or tucked in at 100+ but more that the seat is an absolute plank after the first tankful. By the time we hit the autobahn on the return journey I'd have killed for a big beemer GS or something....
Anyway I digress!
Had a go on JonC's old Fazer thou as my mate at work bought it off him, and it's an impressive piece of kit no mistake. The fairing and front end seem an eternity away in front of you what with the riding position being so sit-up-and-beg but it handles just fine and has a seriously strong motor The new fazer has had mixed reviews though so it looks like they lost a bit of the magic.
