Blade?

Post by Beamish »

For anyone interested this is what I think of it compared to the Storm.

Plus points

1. Much comfier, big padded seat and more relaxed riding position (v suprised)
2. Ultra quick streering and turn in
3. genuine 160+ mph 8O
4. Top quality suspension (IMO)
5. Mid and top end blisteringly quick 9K + is astounding
6. Very easy in town (incredibly easy all round to ride)

Minus points

1. Quiet (even with micron carbon race can
2. Sh*t colour scheme
3. lack of low down instant grunt

As you can see I quite like this bike but still keep going for 7th gear not used to high RPM at 70mph in top !
Only time will tell

i only got the r1 all legal last fri, went for a ride on it sat,and im 99%sure im going to lose my licence as i happened to bump into a camera van doing roughly 130mph
not smart i know...............but my point is i didnt even notice how fast i was going ...these newer in line 4"s are bad (i know its the rider that controls the twist grip)but comparred to the storm these things are effotless.
be careful buddy

pat

Nice one Jim,

As Pat says, watch No.3 - do I have to take you on the 'non-licence losing' roads again ? tut

That's a bugger Pat, presumably you were heading towards the camera and not away from it? Hopefully the blighter won't have had time to spin round and clock your plate! Especially if you kept the speed up passed him

I came across one a few weeks ago only slightly over the prescribed limit for the road, and slowed when I saw it. Trouble is, for some totally inexplicable reason, I speeded up again slightly as I approached him! :?

Ain't heard owt yet

Fingers crossed for you buddy.

A tweaked R1?,does it take that to make a storm feel slow? gotta admit i'm tempted by the standard model but with insurance (£95 servicing i can do myself on the storm),i donno.
Just get the feeling i'd get into trouble quicker ,law or otherwise, which half the time you could on the storm anyway.
OK i 'd get locked up on one of them ,nuff said
i want one

When you shut the tap, what's the engine braking (not breaking!!!) like compared with the 'Storm?

i like both the storm and the R1 ....
the storm i had was dynojetted ,k&n , race cans wich the R1 has these mods also .... not added a great deal more power just better mid range and smoother power delivery ..... but just mental :D
the best way i can describe .... its like a 250cc 2 stroke crosser they way it revs and pics up sooo fast (if that makes sense )

OH NOOOOOOO
i didn't want to hear that ,i love strokers (RGV250 before the storm, not as vicious as an RM i know)but i need to ride a sports inline 4 'cos when push comes to shove i end up riding the vtr like that anyway which iknow is wrong.but i guess i should know better after(after 4 years with the storm)
luv my bike but :?: :?:

the engine braking is a lot less powerfull than the storm; there is some but if you forget your hammering on the brakes at the last minute, lol, you'll get used to it though i spose.
you will miss the noise of the storm though, blade is no comparison, it has its good and bad points like have been stated though.

Ah, the joys of different bikes

My storm (now nearly ready to ride again) big thumping noisey rattling brute of a bike with bucket loads of charactor

My 929 blade, doddle to ride at any speed' beutifully put together, does what it says on the can

My zx6r, might as well get off and walk below 8k revs, build quality is eeeerm, okish, handles brilliantly, induction roar is hair raising

Enjoy riding them all

Not too bad especially if you are up the rev range 9K+ but in top not up to twin standard.

Biggest suprise has to be comfort! Looks like it was a major factor when designing this year blade as its perfecto for me at 5ft 11. Totally not used to the bike though yet, not hooning around like I ended up doing on the Storm, like as been mentioned 100mph is there in a flash 8O God knows what 1st gear tops out at as it must be up in the high 70s-80s its a case of just hold on and watch for the front end rising (in first 3 gears 8O) that reminds me must fit a steering damper, it scares the stuffing out of me when the front is up and wagging like a jack russel 8O 8O 8O

My advice is to keep your Storm if you can afford two bikes but for those like myself that can only afford one at the mo the Blade is a seriously strong contender.

Part of the reason for getting the 'Storm was riding with mates and as I approached a roundabout with my inline 4 GSX it was brake, knock it down a couple of gears, accelerate, up the gears again etc.
Following my mate Matt with his 'Storm he was just slowing down on the throttle, winding it around the r/about and open up again as were the others with 'V' twins. Never touched the brakes. I loved the sound and the torque of the 'Storm.

Yep but I will certainly not have to drop down more than one cog to keep with my old Storm the mid range is pretty strong. Storms rule but they have their limits.
