CCT's david silver or from a honda suplier i.e fowlers
Chatting to a guy who knows his stuff today I mentioned that my cct's would need doing soon as my storm is at about 10000 miles I then mentioned david silver did them dor £26 or therabouts.
I was given a word of warning that some of the older stock of the honda ccts were faulty or failed early and that these may be the ones that david silver were suplying rather than the newer vertion which has aparently been modified to prevent breakage.
anyone got any ideas on this ?
I'd rather spend £100 a pair from fowlers and know there the decent ones if there is an issue.
also is there a way of checking if the spring is ok by just removing the bolt at the end of the cct or does this cause problems with chain slip ?

Don't know about that.... my last 'storm had a pair of Dave Silver CCT's fitted, no probs there! I would have thought that with such a long-standing reputation, DS would be sourcing newer parts. Does anyone know if the part numbers were uprated over the years? It's often a good bet that if they change the part numbers (a-la-CBR1100XX) then it's been uprated.
Perseverance takes too long....

Christ knows, it's something to do with the paint dot on them, I think the ones with the peachy/orange dot on them are the latest ones. I don't see that DS would be selling older ones, they probably sell more than your local main dealer.gimpabiker wrote:clayderman wrote:From a main dealer they're only £74 a pair including gaskets and vat
thats betterbut are they the same as the ds ones or are they difrent ?
I would have said that buying from David Silver was your best bet, as I would imagine he sells a lot more CCT's for the Firestorm than a local garage would because of his good price.
Because Honda sell the new CCT's in a fully retracted state there would be a much better chance they would have not been sitting on a shelf in some store room for too long because of his faster turn over.
People keep coming up now and again with things about the different colour dots and different part numbers etc regarding up-dated versions, I personally have yet to see any firm proof to back this theory up
As we have discussed before (on here) your best CCT's are the original ones fitted to your bike, because they have been fitted at the factory and have not been sitting around in warehouses, containers and stores for goodness know how long in a fully retracted state. In that fully retracted state the spring is under full tension, something that it never reaches when working in your bikes engine

I'd also like to add
I've heard of people having to wait for CCT from David Silver because he was out of stock.
That sort of suggests to me he has new stock in all the time. Also I seam to remember a post from a Honda mechanic on another site saying something along the lines that the coloured dot was nothing to do with different versions but was part of the quality control checking and parts got a splodge of paint to show they had been checked.

My new ride is a bit of a Howler and I love to make her Squeal
did a bit of checking on an online parts site and there are 2 different cct,s available, one part number is 14510MBB003 and that does not supercede, 14520MBB003 changes to 14520MBB013 ,both are available the first one listed at 37.50 euros, the later one is listed at 43 euros, what i did find out is the early part numbers (the first 2) is listed only for the firestorm, but the superceded part number is listed also for the xl1000v varedero as well
