Getting a better view

Post by alan g »

Had a quick go at fixing my mirrors, I got fed up with seeing my elbows! Not the best looking mod but they will do until I can think of a better way.

Not the best looking mod
really?

If I could actually work metal I think I'd cut the shaft in half and insert about 30mm of aluminium.

I alsways used to think the mirrors were a nuisance but I have got used to then now (after 8 years!)
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

If the mirror stem was same dia. all the way, and made of alluminium it would be easy enough to do,but i've got a feeling they will be made of that crappy die cast white metal stuff, which if i remember right is hard to weld :!:
I've got mirror spacers fitted, but they do vibrate at certain revs just a bit more than normal :!:

Thanks Bikerpiker, the extensions are 50mm long, this is the same length as some commercially available extensions, and I wanted to see if this would be long enough for me.
They screw into the fixed studs on the mirror and the other end is a copy of the original mirror fixings. They are attached to the bike through the fairing in the same way as the original mirror, using some rubber spacers (made from tap washers). There is no more vibration than with the normal mirrors.
The intention was to try this length, and if 50mm was OK then I would buy the commercial ones, (but I now think I will keep these I made and save myself a few bob.)

I thought red was for puffs :)
