not much, around 110 miles to the tank - and I ride like a wuss too, as you know

mine had the metz3 racers on from new (apparently they came with those or dunlop 207's as standard). felt a bit twitchy from day one to me, day one being with 1100 miles on the clock last february. changed em a couple of weeks ago for 208's and I'm far happier with those.
numb elbow and wrist ache after about 30 miles is guaranteed so stopping every couple of hours for fuel is actually a blessed relief
as said by others pc3 is a must, though not an outright cure for low speed fuelling probs. for info, mine has the full krappy race system on it. and the SP1 ain't passenger friendly so in my opinion a pillion seat & grabrail would be a waste of dosh!

Talking to a mate of mine yesterday, just come back from 3 weeks touring Europe on his Blade - Reckoned this was an absolute must for long distance on 'plank' type seats such as Blade, SP, Storm etc.

Told you about the 208rr's ages ago Mike, i prefer em to pilot power's the 208 are soft compound mined so mileage your not gonna get much.

Best tyres ? (got metzelers on at the mo)
Any other tips would be great too.
Used to get about 110 to RLOD when taking it easy-ish. less than 90 when on the boil (on the boil is relative....I am shite slow).

Best tyres.....I loved the 2CTs, though you can kill a rear in less than 1100 miles. I have a pair of Pilot Road 2CTs ready to go on the Blade....the reports I have heard is that they are the dogs knobblies.

Hints? Do the flapper mod. Get a Power Commander (essential). Replace the rear shock (or have it rebuilt). Get the suspension set up (it is very sensitive to each click).

 your mate might be young enough to get away with one of those, Red - but I'm at an age where I'd be hard pressed to convince anyone that its main purpose wasn't piles-related! so its suffer in silence in perpetuity for me :(

Ohh, and forgot one thing. Ride it and enjoy it! The RC-51 is a great bike, with bags of character. You have to be weird to not get a little bit excited when you take the fairing off and see HRC on the engine cases :D

4, the suspension and handling are superb.

Good to hear you like it!

I found the exact same thing.....the Storm (even though I only had it a little while) killed my wrists. I thought that the SP1 would be murder as you are hunched over the front wheel, but it was much easier on the wrists.

What abotu the brakes......the anchors are brilliant on the SP1 compared to the Storm (another good tip is to get a radial master cylinder of s Gixxer/R1.......they give a touch more power and a lot more feedback)

FirestormMike wrote:Yeah, forgot to mention the brakes. They are very good indeed for standard set up.
Still don't know whether or not to fit braided lines, I know it'll stiffen them up further but the bikes completely standard and I might just keep it that way.

I'm strongly going to resist the bling on this one.
Braided lines are a must. Go for tasteful black HEL lines. The fresh fluid will make a big difference too. The standard lines will be pretty crappy after 7 years and you will be loosing a lot of feel if you leave them on.

Re the bling: it will actually depreciate the bike. Cans and a PC are a must, but keep the standard cans (for when you sell the bike on)

Get a power commander and you can get around 130 to a tank. Mine paid for itself in about 6 months. I never had a problem with my seat. Rode it from Surrey to Germany and had no real issues. You can really feel the grip through the seat, i used to love it!!

When i got onto my GSXR it was absolute agony, all that gel and padding was really uncomfortable 8O

the pic of alan on it shows how superfluous those elbow (bump?) pads are for all but the fattest arses. so, who wants to own up to a cosy fit with one of those fitted?
be interested to hear how your SP sounds with the standard cans Mike, I've got some - but I'm loathe to take the krappies off.

Ok after filling it up to just under the filler neck I got 125 miles till the light came on, but the pace was quite laid back last night.
Been to Alan's today and filled to the little steel bit (must be the max mark) and got 110, this was motorway all the way with 90-really officer? speeds
found out that it accelerates from 100-150 like nobody's business too 8O

Didn't have the sore backside like I did last night, the only negative is the wind noise, due to the lower screen.

Stop press : Alan seen riding bike :D :D

Won't be long now folks, (unless Sue see's these pics  )
