Coolant Leak - Radiator Cap

Post by Anonymous »

Hi folks

I'm back under a new user name, cos my other one (JohnD) stopped working for some strange reason ages ago & despite emailing admin a few times, I never recieved a response / solution.

So here's my problem...

I did a coolant flush & replaced my left radiator about a month ago. Now, I recently discovered a small leak from under the radiator cap. So I purchased a new one & the problem has not been cured - in fact it has got worse!

Any ideas to what the problem might be?

Thanks
John

Guess my REAL QUESTION is - Is it possible that i'm overlooking a more serious problem with the cooling system... or should I carry on hunting for a rad cap that works !?!?

Wouldnt of thought your coolant would leak past the radiator cap.
If heated right up to tempature and pressure occurs this would push the coolant through the overflow to expansion bottle first before leaking surely.
Sure its not a stress fracture around the neck of the radiator cap somewhere?
Only way to check is with fairings off and leave engine running to get up to tempature to check to see where leak is coming from.

Oh and BTW only one radiator cap and its on the right side. ;)

It turns out that the new rad cap that I got was a cheap aftermarket one (even tho was told it was a genuine part!).

Got a used one from a scrappy today - & it works! Phew!

Was starting to get worried that something more serious was wrong!

cheers for all those who chipped in with their advice!
