What's missing from a std FireStorm Wiring Specification?

Post by LotusSevenMan »

Well a Hazard Warning circuit IMHO.

So, I made one up at the w/e.
Required:- A fuseholder, a switch a 4 way flasher unit (often marked 4 x 21w + 5), two diodes of 50 volt 4amp minimum (I used 50v 6a ones as that was all Maplins had).
Before starting this work, disconnect the battery!

I 'tapped into' a permanent live feed from the loom under the instrument console and wired in the fuseholder to it.
Then took a feed from there to a small toggle switch with waterproof boot and fitted that also onto the instrument console. From there I followed the circuit seen below using soldered joints to the diodes and heatshrink tubing to keep it neat.
Reconnected the battery and VOILA! A set of working hazard flashers.
Those of you with led lights might have a problem that will require resistors to cure but I don't know for sure as I have the std set-up.

Didn't take long really and I had a few of the parts like wiring, crimps etc so costs was about 7 pounds all up I think.
Nice to pull over while waiting for other riders to catch up/check the MK1 SITNAV (Sit and Navigate by map) etc and feel a bit safer.

The flasher unit fitted neatly into the support frame under the console with a single cable tie holding it securely in place

I have made it so it can all be removed very easily for use on a different bike or when the bike is sold without major rip-outs required.
No responsibility can be taken by myself or this forum for damage incurred if you undertake these alterations and they are carried out at entirely your own risk.

I used to have a 400c Super Four (also custard) - that had a hazard warning button as standard where the high/low switch is on 'standard' honda LH switchgear. Think I used it once when I got a rear flat tyre! [/i]

But Mike.
Surely now you have a yellow 'Storm you have to wait every now and then for the inferior/slower coloured ones to catch up? 8O

Head down again

Nice mod. Have to say i still have a superfour as well (vtec engine on it) and that again has a hazard switch, and i do find them handy. I alternativley spent £300 on a datatool S4 alarm which when both buttons are pressed on the fob gives you hazards, how cool is that. Bit more costly mind
