Fuelling with Venom Cans - Edit

Post by Supermofo »

Hi Guys,

Fitted some Venom cans on the weekend. They look and sound great, but ridding in this morning was 'orrible

Below 4,000 rpm the fueling is not nice at all. TBH below 4k was never great on the standard cans, but now on anything but a positive or shut throttle it keeps going to cut out/stall or is very fluffy. Above 4k seems fine, but with lots of traffic this morning and slow speeds it was a nightmare of reving it in 1st and sounding like a t@at or clutch in/out in 2nd. I know on other bikes I've owned if you don't sort the fueling you lose some useability down low in the revs but think this is more than that.

So any ideas? Any one had the same issue with Venom?

I was told by Motad that I wouldn't need to Re-jet, but I assume that the bike needs re-jetting for the cans, but thought I'd ask on here first. I have left the removeable baffles in the cans if that matters?

Not fussed about more power, just want to be able to ride the feckin thing

Anyway ta in Advance.

'Mofo.

I've got viper cans on mine with no problems standard filter. It does run a little rich.

I did think about the filter but as far as I am aware its running the stock filter, the bike was completely standard baring oiler and R&Gs when I got it and it ran fine with standard cans whereas I would have thought an aftermarket filter might have messed the standard running up? I'll have a look tonight anyway.

Do you have the baffles in? I know on the Ixil's I had on my Z750 the baffles could make it run a bit odd.

I've got the Venoms fitted running with the baffles as it seems loud enough for me. No problems if fact it runs better. Did you use the new gaskets and check all the joints are sealed :?:
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Yeah I got some OE honda gaskets at stupid money cos the Motad ones weren't a good fit. Checked for air around the joints and there was none after the cans were fitted and the problem occurred pretty much from the moment I started riding it? Will check again for air leaks at the gasket end and also around where the springs hold the cans on in case.

Its a bit of a pisher as the noise with the baffles in is great

I might remove the baffles and try it without them and see if it improves running, although thats not ideal with the baffles being mounted where they are

Hmmm Just started bike at work to check for leaks and couldn't feel any. Poop, was kind of hoping it would be something simple like that.

If it was not exactly right before may be it needs new spark plugs or an air filter. Also the carbs may need balancing :!:
