I used IPtorrents, my mate got me an invite to join, i downloaded 5 of the latest movies all excellent quality, but could only play 3 off them, by using vlc media player.(free download}.

I also needed to download/install utorrents, but was never right into doing downloads :!:
My pc was only 6 weeks old, and was taking nearly 4 mins to boot up 8O ,so i got rid of the lot ,and defraged my hard-drive,it boots up fast as buggery now :D

Do you mean a DVD off a disc?

If so do you mean "codec?" If you're getting that error message in whatever player you're using (Windows Media Player / Winamp / PowerDVD whatever) then you can try and web search for a "codec pack" for your player that might help you.

Alternatively (and my preferred method) is to go get VLC Media Player. it will pretty much play anything straight away and its free. (get it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ )

If you mean a DVD movie type file off your hard drive, like an .MP4 file or .mkv file you might need specialised stuff to play it - either software or hardware. E.g. .mov files only (usually) work in Apple Quicktime Player. Google search the file extension on its own and it'll tell you what type of file it is and what it works with.

If you mean your DVD drive (it is a DVD and not a CD-ROM?) wont read the disc it might be a region issue. You can check and change the region your DVD drive thinks it is in Device Manager (right click My computer desktop icon - select Manage - select Device Manager - select DVD/CD Drives - right click - properties.)

But try VLC first - its easiest.

Trying to play a dvd disk using windows media player 11 by any chance?

Try Kitch's vlc player or download k-lite codec pack (comes with media player classic and will play just about anything).
Rich.

Could be worth doing a search for ffdshow (graphics) and the AC3filter thingy for sound.

i know its been resolved but just incase any one else has similar, and no doubt people will as there are that many different types of codecs now for different movie compressions .

just google codec pack
there are always updates out there for the most recent codecs...
but be careful where you get them from cause some are riddled with spyware n viruses.
