Storage of CCT's

Post by Storm Trooper »

Is it the case that all tensioners bought are wound up so the spring is loaded. If these are to be stored surely would it not be better for the tensioner to be extended to allow for the load to be taken off the spring while stored?

Opinions please.

Cheers

Yes, you are right CCT's are all fully retracted when purchased new as a spare for the Firestorm.
Most definitely if you are going to store a CCT for later use allowing them to extend (carefully, not allowing it to spring out) IMHO would be the best option.

We have discussed this before a few times and we are (as you say) certain that a CCT fully retracted (as they are when purchased new) is only a bad thing, as the spring is tensioned far more in that state then it ever is when fitted and being used in the bike. Being fully retracted and sent out from the factory we feel can only shorten their life :!:

They could be in warehouses, shipping containers and stores for months or even longer sat in a fully retracted state. Therefore we feel the best CCT's are the original ones fitted to your bike at the factory. They will not have had to endure such a strain being put on them like the ones packaged up and sent out as spares :!:
