Oil for my Bike

Post by Dagger »

Hi.

I bought Shell 5w-40 Full Synthetic oil for my VTR.

Is that OK ? The blokes in my small town don’t really know what oil to use.

Thx

I *think* (top of my head and all that) that fully synth can cause clutch slip. Mine used to slip on fully synth, but not on semi-synth.

Hiya mate,

Couple of old threads here:

Seems the jury's still out over fully or semi synth though - me I'm on fully.

any oil designed for 4 stroke motorcycles should do if you change regular semi-synthetic would be more than acceptable, dont use oils designed for cars etc, as you will suffer clutch slip as these contain slip agents to reduce friction :?

I wouldn't recommend going back from fully to semi unless you flush your engine through else you will get that congilled effect, kinda gelly.

heck lol yes yes was a bit ratted when writing that  :P . If fully synth is mixed with semi and not fully flushed it will react and form a kinda gelly not a good thing, which is why flushing is very important when swapping from fully to semi etc.
