Firestorm all fixed...I hope

Post by Supermofo »

A while ago I posted about my Storms fueling woes. Basically around 4,000rpm the bike was horrible to ride and would sometimes go to cut out and was really hard to ride on a constant throttle at low rpm. I had a slight issue with the standard cans, but after fitting some Motad Venoms the problem was horrendous. Well I finally got it sorted :D

I took the bike to Race Engineering in Bishops Stortford and it looks like the bike was massively lean between about 3800-4800rpm. To the extent that after a dyno jet kit and set up the bike has gained about 5-6lbs of torque and 3-4bhp at 4000rpm. There was a huge dip in both power and torque at the trouble spot. Now the dyno curve is lovely and smooth 8) The guy couldn't find any real reason for the problem and said it didn't look as though the previous owner had messed about with the jetting etc, so maybe the bike was a Fri afternooner?? Carbs were also a fair way out of balance as well.

I didn't go for a performance filter as I'm not fussed about bhp and didn't see the point of £75 odd for a K&N I just wanted the bike to run right so I was quiet chuffed with 103bhp and 65lbs. Not ridden it yet but can't wait as judging from the graph is should be much better than before.

So beers on me 8)

Top news always good when things go right. Not bad power either that would imagine it will be lots more fun to ride now just need some good weather. :D

That might be the lean spot Honda (and most Jap mnfrs) build in to pass noise tests and emissions.

Dynojet kits sort this out, with a decent filter.

And don't pray for too much good weather- damp conditions means that your engine makes more power- just when you can't use it properly :sad2

Glad you're sorted.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
