Intake Trumpets ---fookit screw.

Post by bikerpiker »

Ive just buggered the head of one of the star screws while trying to take one of the Trumpets off inside my air-box ,the screw was unbelievably tight....i wonder who had them off last  :(

I figure i've 3 choices,

1- currently trying to grind a slot in the head of the stuck screw ,so far no joy, i cant get the Dremmel at the correct angle due to the shape of the inside of the airbox ,but im still trying.

2- try to weld a bit of scrap steel to the head of the screw ,to screw it out. (would probably melt some plastic/damage the lug)

3- just cut the plastic lug that the stuck screw goes through,...only thing is the trumpet would only be held by one screw ,instead of two .
Is this likely to cause problems?
Also is there any reason not to change these star screws to Allen Screws ?

Anybody any other ideas ,ive tried shocking it etc

Cheers

the GSX750w, ....im still thinkin aboot it, but the bit in the review where it says its not any faster than a bandit600 puts me off ,also says a fazer600 feels like an R1 compared to it. I still say it's a smashing looking bike though :!:

Anyway , i did eventually get the screw out by cutting a slot in it with my Dremmel cheapo £12 copy .....i managed to get a big flat screwdriver into the slot i cut ,not pretty but done the job .

Just had another elbow cheek clenching moment when unscrewing the inspection caps of the left hand engine casing ,they've certainly tightened up since i put them on not too long ago ,and i'd read the stories about them being made of cheese...talk about relief :!:
