Hello all,
i hear an intermittent noise from the front cyclinder, but its more like a slap.
It sounds more pronounced when engine breaking, but the i'm not 100% sure.
i replaced the front cct but the noise still appears.
the shims were done 2 years ago.
i'm thinking it could be something other than the tensioners, possibly the cam chain itself?
The engine has done 45k with no problems at all.
cheers

Leak on the exhaust to cylinder head gasket?
But most likely to be CCT.
If the CCT's been done while you have heard the noise but has made no difference, then it's not that.
But if it's just been done a while back, unfortunately there's no guarantee that it won't have failed again.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Roger,
I'm inclined to think the same as Tony on this one, it certainly sounds as if it could be a faulty CCT. That slapping noise sounds like a weak spring on the CCT allowing the cam chain to be slapping about in the chain tunnel.
It's normally noticeable from approx 3,000revs and down, (as you're slowing down and changing down when approaching a junction or similar) as at that point the front CCT when working as it should actually tightens the cam chain up
Chris.
