Crank case respray

Post by Honzuki »

The right hand crank case (the bike the covers the clutch) on my 'Storm is rough as rats and I'm going to try and respray it. I'm going to try and do a decent job on a budget, so it's coming off the bike and is going to be sanded down. But does anyone know of a decent spray that's heat proof and is a reasonable match to the original gun-metal colour?

Any suggestions?

Cheers Tim

Hia
Just seen nobody’s answered
Can’t help you with the colour match but if you do both cases at the same time no need to match.
When I did mine I used hamerite smooth
Its heat resistant when the engines been run for a bit seems to cook itself on
If you want to get it some were near the original colour you can mix it
You’ll need black gloss, mat black and silver
Start with the gloss black and ad a small amount of mat in a seal able tin
Paint a small patch on a bit of plastic till you get the satin finish right then add a touch of silver till it matches the original ones.
Did the engine in the same way and the match was pretty good
You can get it fairly near if you take your time just make sure to mix enough to paint at one time to pain both cases

Ps note tidy workbench

Now that's just showing off! Nice engine!

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't have a spray gun and don't really want to paint it on as I doubt the finish will look that good (please correct me if I'm wrong!) I might give the black spray version a shot. It's got to look better than it does now.

Thanks for the input. (Very jealous of the engine and the tidy work bench!)

I had my crankcase cover powder coated when I had the wheels done. Looks good in black IMHO...

But be very careful about cleaning all the shotblasting bits out after it comes back.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
