Siezed chainer adjuster

Post by dblanky »

Hey all,

It's been one of those weeks so far, moving out my house on friday and monday got a puncture in a near enough new rear tyre. Got a new tyre fitted to the rim and went to stick it back on the bike and the chain adjuster has just jammed it self in the thread good and proper! No amount of penertrating spray and vice gripping is helping.

So I am wondering, before resorting to drilling the bugger out, i'd check out heating it up with a torch. Before I try is it a wise idea? Is the swingarm made of aluminium? i can remember many moons ago being told to be careful with heating ally up as it can melt easily?

Anyway any thoughts/ideas are more than welcome!

Cheers all

i would take it off the bike, as you say the swing arm is Ali.

might be cheap enough to buy a new one/ pair from david silvers or somewhere like that, they can usually post pretty quick, it might save a few skinned knuckles.

You can file a couple of nice meaty flats on the end of the adjuster instead of the hex, as the hex rounds off quite easily.

It's also easier to see when you've turned them both 1/2 a turn.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
