Crack in engine cover

Post by bogof »

Right side engine cover slid along the road a few weeks back, and appears to have a small crack at the bottom.

Not been able to check for oil leak yet due to having one arm out of action.

Until I can find a replacement, anyone have experience of sticking something over such a crack to stop all the oil falling out? If so, what did you use and is it best applied on the outside or inside?

Halfords sell "liquid metal" that i've used to cover a hole in an engine casing. Kept it oil tight for about £4.

Surprisingly, Silicone sealant works too (especially the head/rocker gasket sealing stuff (Wurth is good)). Maybe not a permenant fix, but lasts well enough...

I've got some carbon covers to cover the scratches up, they are not cheap (but nothing carbon is! 89 Euros I think).

carbonadi1@yahoo.de adi is the chaps name, from Germany. They are good and I've crash tested them on track and they take a slide well... (not to mention look good!)
No bike (yet).
