"Locking off the cct" - what does that mean

Post by garyhoons »

Hi Guys, New to the forum, picked up my 2003 VTR1000 just two days ago.

In great nick but i've had to order another transponder key and will have to program that in as it only came with one.

I've been reading through all the information on the CCT mods ( this one still has the stock ones, previous owner didn't even know they had a history of breaking) and i've got one question.

I've constantly seen people referring to "locking it off " when they talk about removing the CCT to put the small Rod in there.

I understand you make the thin tool to turn the worm drive, take off the bolt and washer, insert the tool and turn it 1/4 turn clockwise, but, then it says to "lock it off" ?

How exactly do you "lock it off" with this thin metal tool you make once you've turned it ?

I haven't had them out yet, just trying to piece the whole storey together so I don't run into any surprises when I attempt it.

Thanks Alot !

Welcome

There are slots cut into the CCT under the 10mm bolt at the end, the key fits into these and effectively "locks" it in position.

Phil is right, that is exactly it

If you've not already Gary, read this link before attempting to remove the CCT's:-

Hi there,

I have been reading that post and all the posts on all the possibly mods. I'm almost sick to death about reading about CCTs so i'm just about ready to get into it.

It was just quite hard to understand what people where talking about when i hadn't actually seen the CCT before, the last engine i worked on just had a ratchet and spring mechanism - nothing to wind there.

While i have you though, do you, or does anybody else have the UK haynes manual for the bike ? I think its number 3744. I'm trying to determine if it has info in it on where to find the ignition pulse generator connector to put the 12v across when you go to register new keys to the ICM ?
If its not in there, i won't buy it, i already have the PDF manual getting around on the net.
I was able to get the procedure from other forums from people adding keys to their CBRs, so i just need to find the connector.

Thanks

i have the latest '97-'07 version of the haynes manual (3744) and the procedure is in section 5-8.
You have to remove the fairing and trace the IPG cable from the front of the clutch cover to the 2-pin connector by the radiator.
