I've got CCC Carbon cans on mine, they're good to deal with. They resleeved and repacked mine last year for a reasonable amount.
E-mail Simon on: sales@carboncan.co.uk

I contacted him early December re replacement link pipes, I was cheekily after just one side but he wouldn't split a pair. Can't blame him, really.

Make it clear that the cans are for a Storm, as they have a thicker sleeve which is more suitable for big twins if you ask Simon nicely.
The thicker sleeve isn't as shiny as the thin stuff but doesn't blow apart.

Can't comment on their metal ones, but their quality seems fine and they seem happy to repair if needed, unlike some mnfrs.

And the sound is good and throbby, but on tickover they seem ok if you get a tug.

Link pipes on their own from CCC are about £79, but any 52mm pipes will do. You can get them for about £60 on E-bay, browse for
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-VTR1000-FIR ... 45efee596a
I can't comment on quality of the E-bay ones as I haven't bought any of these.

Or, if you want, here's a supplier of all of the parts you'll need to build your own:
http://www.pjengineering.co.uk

Just pair these with the link pipes from Ebay and you're away.
You just need a decent rivet gun and some SS blind rivets.

One tip if you do this, put a small SS washer behind the rivets in the end cap (inside the carbon sleeve) as you rivet this on. If you slip a washer onto the rivet before you apply the rivet gun it'll stay on the rivet and act as a little plate inside the carbon tube, spreading the load.
Do the exit end first and you can put your arm up the tube. Protect your arm- carbon splinters hurt!
If you do this the rivet spreads onto the washer and the carbon tube is clamped between the outer strip and the washers. Much less likely to pull through.

The front pipe end may be safely rivetted blind without washers, as the entry plate where the exhaust pipe joins it is held fairly rigidly against the pipe by the can's clamp.
The exhaust pulses will try to blow the end cap off the pipe, but can't do that at the entry end.
So the strongest one needs to be the unsupported end cap.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I had them on my Storm-see this thread at bottom

http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 2&start=15

They are good sounding cans and pretty cheap really.

But the links I got supplied were utter shite-they cracked at the welds too  They were ill fitting and poor in finish.

For that kind of money I'd go to to MTC-they look better quality. Think Timbo has one on his

http://www.mtcexhausts.co.uk/

I had the high level links in the pic custom made at Zorstec in Shipley. Andy will make anything you want for the right cash. I've had 3 exhausts/link pipes off him now and they've always been ace.

Saying that, I have my eye on something rather more fruity for the SP...:D Starts with A and ends in Krapovic :biggrin Tis the muts nuts

Just depends on how much £ you want to spend :?

Just to say that I had the CCC link crack at the weld as well, so maybe their links are best avoided.

I suppose dropping the bike onto its can on that side a couple of times might have something to do with it, though....

Unlike some designs, theirs has the bolt-through plate which attaches to the footrest hanger welded onto the link pipe, some don't.

Following my comment about PJ engineering's can component site, I enquired what their costs were for all necessary bits to build your own.
Here's their reply:

Hi, yes we can this for you, a good deal would be all you need to build each silencer, the carbon, the packing and perf tube, a inlet and outlet, 2 rivet straps and rivets, a inlet clamp and a mounting strap and rubber all for £125 each, this would be round oval or tri oval, its up to you, as you can see thats a discount there for you guys, pleased you asked.
Happy new year to you and yours.

Hi. I'm pricing up a pair of tri-oval or round carbon sleeved cans for a Honda Firestorm VTR1000FW.

I'll need the entry ends, end caps, sleeve, baffle tube and baffle wadding, two clamps and a couple of SS exhaust pipes clamps to clamp it onto the exhaust pipes. 52mm entry pipe.

Your website's pretty helpful, but doesn't show the entry point end caps, so I can't price these.

I'm sure you've been asked this before, so do you have a complete kit price for both options?

Cheers,
Tony.

BTW, I'm a member of the http://www.vtr1000.org owners website forum, with your permission I'll post your prices for the others, too.

And if by any chance you offer a discount for owner's clubs???
(Can't hurt to ask, can it?)

Seems a good deal, whether you run a pair or single-sided. And for tri-oval, pretty good, IMO.
I'll be using them next time to see what their stuff's like, but if anyone else orders before that please feed back.

Oh, and don't forget to mention the site so that you get the discount.

(Mods- is this worth copying or moving into the Workshop KB?)

Well, they won't come with a stamp saying "Not for Road Use", so you shouldn't have too much problems.
Anyway, a DB Killer will fit fi you get too much attention.

I worried when I got mine four years ago, never a tug, 40K kilometers on.
