Well fitted some new bits to the bike Levers etc
put some air into the tires, put the bike on the optimate
8pm comes fire it up warm it up, warm and ready i set off instantly the backs spinning, sh1t this is going to be an eventful ride hope i can get to the end of my ave where the road shouldnt be sheet ice with what was a blizzard of snow on top.
200 ft down the road it slants to the right down a hill, where does my rear wheel go..... slanting down right while the front is still true and straight, i try to stop the slide... wheeeeeeey down it does back end sliding out and away from me bike slides about 20ft and ends up facing me having done a 180
having a bunch of retard kids stand laffing at me trying to pick a bike up on ice - pricless.... NOT!
i now need another bloody clutch lever!
I wish there was a wombles mastercard in my pocket i tell you!
why is it that everybody seem's to down there storms on the left side?
its the 3rd time now this ive done it and my dad has done it once before on the left side on this bike when a car pulled out at a junction luckley that was very slow and didnt evan damage a lever a fairing and indicator or bugger all lucky git!
im now thinking i shall have to get my self 4 wheels for this winter weather shite! last year was nothing like this at all.
Down on my butt again! poor firestorm

Re: Down on my butt again! poor firestorm

Sorry to hear this but if you must bike in these conditions you need something that really doesn't mind ending up on its side. A trail bike or something?
Car is a better bet for sure but it ain't good in one of these right now on ice either!!!!

Re: Down on my butt again! poor firestorm
Seb,
brave man out there in this weather, but bad luck on the spill, even low speed ones cause damage. As LSM said, get a light / easy to crash winter bike.......if its not to late.
If it is any concilation I was out on a 6hr competition on sunday in Shropshire on my trials bike [no seat, open face helmet and thin gloves! and never went above -2C]. we used 40 mile of C roads to link together all the sections and where the hedges stopped the sun hitting the tar, there was sheet ice hedge to hedge ! We came round a corner to find a Merc Vito van belonging to one of the support teams blocking the road as he couldnt get up the hill due to the ice, but then we couldnt stop either!!!!!!!!!!! had to put the bike in the hedge as it was softer than the van!
No damage as the bikes are built to crash, but then in one of the river sections just after this, I misjudged the rock step, lost my footing and went face first into the river
I had spare gloves with me, but that was it, so I rode the last hour soaked to the waist with water inside my waterproof socks.
I think my knob is just about thawed out!

Re: Down on my butt again! poor firestorm
I know the feeling I decided to take my KTM450 out and did no better was on my butt by the end of the road, would be fine if I could find an off-road route to work. On normal roads in icey conditions enduro tyres don't quite do it, only saving grace is the only damage was a scratched hand gaurd and the embarrassment. As far as greenlaner bikes go 250/300 KLX's would make a good winter hack, and not too bad off road either. Good luck with the repairs

Seb, I think your nuts, I take my hat off to you. Bad luck about the lever.
Happy ridin'

Think you hit in 1 in your post seb...
Car
...and they're still sh1t sometimes.
I know a load of lads that ride all year-but they don't use a V2 sports tourer...(and waits...
)
Saying that, I'm sorry to hear about your misfortunes.
10 out of 10 for effort though. I'd put this particular winter down to experience
It's a bummer mate-hope you get the bike sorted

Re: Down on my butt again! poor firestorm
I've noticed that things like levers are shared between several models, same goes for rear brake levers, gearchange levers etc.
( I once made up a high compression kit for a CB125s single out of one fourth of a 500/4 set. They said no such thing existed, and it wouldn't fit, but I'd done my homework- same bore and stroke, valve sizes etc).
Anywho, the point is- take the broken bits to a breaker and just ask for "another one of them" instead of trying to get a specific VTR10000FW (or whatever the model is) one.
That's gotta be a good thread for the KB section- what other models' bits also fit Storms....

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
