Hang it out of the side from under the seat when using it, then tuck it away under seat when you arent. Had one on the ZRX for a year, trust me it is better out of the way until you need it.
wont it get damaged or water damage if its exposed (at the base)

Hi Seb, probably the best way to drill plastics is to use a unibit, that way you can go a stage at a time, and only go as far as you need to!
I think both Draper and Irwin make them.

Seb,
Chris's (Jonesey) suggestion of a Unibit is good, but another option is if you know a Carpenter, Plumber or Electrician may be you could borrow a hole saw. You would need to remove the tail plastic's and put a block of wood under the part where you want the hole to go. I've used them for drilling the fairing for crash protectors and they leave a nice clean cut.

They look like the one in this link below. They come in different sizes so you will need to check your 12V supply socket to see what size is required:-

Chris is right on this one. This is what I used when I fitted my part in the same place.
There really good and as the large part acts as a saw, It dont leave nasty edges. By using this , you won,t have to remove the cover either. Just make sure there,s nothing behind that will be caught by the drill bit .
