Optimate III

Just wondering what your feelings are on the above unit and are they worth the money.Also do you just plug them to the battery on the bike power on and leave them to it till spring ?

I believe they are a good unit but for a cheaper item the Halfords own has done me proud for the last two years. I tend to leave it on a couple of days then take it off for a while. They are designed to be left on all the time but I am a tight Yorkshire bast

Thanks for the advice I will take a look tomorrow. I can get the Optimate for around £33 which I thought was a reasonable price.

They should be left on all the time for the battery to get the most benefit - I've always left mine on, though now I don't have an alarm it's probably superfluous

Being a tight Yorkshire b@stard too I got a cheap option from my local Aldi for 10 quid and its been ace. Has all the same functions as an Optimate (have an older Optimate 2 at my parents that my dad use's) and I've had no bother with it.

The money saved bought me a new flap cap and ferret combo

I have two operating on two different bikes and yes, just leave them plugged in all the time they are being stored. it all seems to work OK. Electric use minimal but being from down south we 'waste' such huge quantities of electricity it hardly matters. I mean, I even turned on TWO lights and had them both on at the same time the other night. What's it coming too?

i have one, use it more now in the winter, didnt use it once in the summer, saying that i ride everyday, had to use it more this winter with the cold starts and bike being stood for long periods with that anoying alarm on.

Thanks for the advice fellas.The Optimate III has been purchased and in use for a few days now.Got to say it has made the bike fire up a lot easy and seems to maintain the batteries charge.Fingers crossed it should keep everything spot on till spring.
