Expansion tank
Hi all, just wondering about the possible pitfalls of getting rid of the expansion tank. With it off the view through the engine is much nicer, was thinking of getting hold of one of those bottles that look like a drinks bottle, you see them on race bikes and the like, any thoughts anyone?

You will definitely need something to replace the expansion tank with something if you decide to do away with the standard one. The plastic coolant tank acts as a catch can for the coolant. As the coolant heats up it expands, so takes up more room than there is in the radiators. As it cools down it draws the coolant back from the tank into the radiators. This helps to keep the radiators at full capacity and prevents the coolant from spilling out.

Re: Expansion tank
Chris found a nice shaped chemical bottle from work, half a litre, white heatproof plastic connected it to the rad expansion pipe and run the tube to the bottom of it syphon style, took it for a run and the level stopped constant in the bottle, got it hot too.Seems ok and i think its worth the compromise to get rid of it from inbetween the vee,nice...

Yorky,
You're certainly getting there
Keep up the good work
I can see now what you are getting at with removing the original expansion tank.
