APEs fitted!

Post by vtrnut »

Well fitted my APEs yesterday and have to say its a relief not to have too worry about CCTs failing any more! (although while taking mine off it was clear they had been replaced! Pity the owner/garage didnt stick it in the service book...ah well).
Followed the instructions on here (thanks  ) and it was very easy job.........hardest part was getting the old gaskets off.

Have a question for anyone who has done this though. I have set the tension by checking the play between the cam wheels prior to removing the CCT and the instructions that came with the APE that states 1/4 to 3/8 inch. This seems to give me about 34mm sticking out from the face of the locknut (where it locks to the anodised surface) to the top of the adjuster nut (pinned to the shaft). Can anyone else give me an idea of what lenght of adjuster they have. Just looking to make sure im in the right ballpark.

Bike started first go (what a moment that was  ) idles fine and seems to ride as normal. Dosent seem any more noisey than usual, just the usual noise that goes away when the clutch is pressed.

Cheers

Should also have said I know it also depends on the wear on the slider, chain strech etc. My bike has 25k so there will be strech and wear!

Oh er misses :eek2

Checked mine last night when trying to get the bike started. (check the 'Long crank time' thread)

Mine are about 35mm too, so you can't be too far off the button. Bike has similar mileage.
