Anyone have a working Oscilloscope?

Post by Phil-VTwin »

If so, can you take a trace of the tacho signal for me please, i need to count the ignition pulses for a project but not 100% sure if its sine, square or something else!

Thanks

Phil
I think you'll find it's a square wave with rounded off corners. I haven't monitored it but nearly all FG pulses are the same when measured from the pick up. Some get cleaned up and squared off (digitised) in the next bit of the circuit or processor.

Cheers

Cheers Pete, Thats what i thought originally and expected it to work but nothing :(

Going to throw together a Peak Voltage Adapter on a bit of Veroboard and measure the signal properly as i think its low and not switching the transistor, however if the Honda manual is using a peak adapter to test it then surely the signal is a sine?

Actually I think you are right. It's more likely going to be a sinwave. the pick up magnet doesnt spend long passing the sensor and I'm pretty sure it's not going to get much signal, if any, when it's 180 degrees away from it. You might even just get a string of blips.
I can't get the scope on it at the mo, bikes in bits again (Shh don't tell Timbo :shh: )
