Strange Misfire

Post by vtrbarmy »

So - nice sunny morning, roll out the Storm fire her up and away we go. All running sweet and sound, so decide I'll pop down to the A127Diner. Park up, cuppa tea no worries.
Come back out, press start button, all ticking over nicely, engage first gear, pull away bike goes 10 yards and cuts out (in front of everyone of course). Restart, engage gear, go to pull away, cuts out.

Round bouncy objects thinks I. OK, maybe plugs are a bit fouled, so start bike, rev it a bit in neutral to clear it out (thinks I), pull away, couple of misses, but off we go. Engage second gear, cuts out.

This continued for the next mile or so, before eventually she suddenly runs sweet as a nut - well up to about 4,500 revs then missing like anything.

Ride ruined, turn round decide to get bike home. problem gets no worse, ok below 4.5k revs, sweet as, above that, pops and bangs. :x

Get home, fit new plugs. Nope. :x
Check it's not the new R1 Reg/Rec I fitted causing issues? Nope. :x

Do you know what it was - the poxy damned side stand switch, unplugged it from under the seat. joined the 2 green wires together to short across and she runs a dream again up to ther ed line, no pos or bangs or misfires or cutting out.

So - if ever you develop a strange misfire - check your side stand switch first. Damned things. Problem solved now, but no sidestand light and it can stay that way for the time being until I get another one off fleabay (and if anyone else buys one, note that the 1000F switch is different to the SP1/2 (the 1000F has 3 wires, the SP1 (and I assume SP2) have only 2.
