Start from scratch .....

Post by sirloveyou »

Hi,
This is my first post on here,
I have just brought a v reg vtr ......... in pieces !!!
The timing chain went and damaged the engine ! So someone stripped down the bike and lost interest so I snapped it up ! Everything is there all complete, all I have to do is source a engine.
My issue is I had no input in the bike being stripped down so I have no idea where anything goes or how to put it back together !
So this is a appeal !!! Has anybody totally striped down there bike and built it back up ? maybe even kept a record of made a document of how they did it !
Any help would be amazing !!!
Also if anyone has a engine they want to sell me !!!
Thank you I hope I get answers I want this project to be a success and not just another unfinished project sold for spares !!!

Alwlrite Fella, welcome to the forum!

Not done a strip down meself but i'm sure someone who has will be along in a while to pass on their knowlage & wisdom.

For starters have a look around the the 'Workshop Knowlage' section where i'm sure you will find various bits & bobs like parts lists & exploded diagrams ect.

You say in your post that all you need is the engine due to CCT faliure, does that mean that the engine is missing complately? If not, is it not repairable?

Whereabouts are you? A location may reveal a Stormer who lives quite near to you.
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

sounds like a great opportunity to do a good job - new bushes & bearings, powder coated frame & subframe???
ah the possibilities!
copy the shop manual from the workshop forum link - get to know the bike before you start
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Did the end come off the valve?
If so, engine probably not economically rebuildable, as you'll need piston, rings, head, big end a crankshaft bearings.
Too expensive, easier to get a secondhand runner motor.

If it's just bent the pair of ex valves on the front cylinder, result, easy to do and only about £100-140 all in.

The rest of assembly is easy, never had a Meccano kit before?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
