Bad earth?????

Post by Jazzscot »

Was in the garage today fitting the vac nipple to the front cyl. I noticed that when all the lights are off and i touch the brakes the stop light comes on along with the dash lights and small front lamp.

Any ideas????? Bad earth somewhere??

sounds like it bud, first check i'd say, under the tailpiece at the back - prone to water ingress especially off the jetwasher ;)
unplug and inspect all the connectors. might be a duffer somewhere.

but thinking about it, i'm sure someone said they had the same fault and it was down to a back bulb failing - with the twin tail light & brake light filaments.... one brake filament had blown and had fallen onto the tail light filament inside the bulb, so when the brake was energised, the bit of filament acted as a resistor and partially put voltage to the lighting circuit....

worth a shot before you go mad ripping stuff out - check the bulbs

failing all that, there's a wiring diagram in the pdf manual in the workshop section
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Turns out one of the bulbs in the tailpiece had been inserted 180 degrees the wrong way round.
