Flat spot off idle.

Post by vtwin »

I have scorpion cans and the previous owner has fitted a K&N but no jetting changes made.

The bike idles fine ( apart from the odd pop ) and above 5k its fine. But if you snap open the throttle from idle it will almost die before picking up, it also surges if cruising at low revs and low throttle, clearly running too lean IMO.

I have found the mixture screws but have yet to adjust them ( how do you get to them ? ) will this be enough to sort it out or will I need to get a dyno jet kit. Do K&n's really breath that much better ? If so I suppose I could put a standard filter back in.

thanks for any help

Don't adjust your mixture screws yet. They only look after the fuel in the low revs. Try putttin a 0.6 mm washer under your needles as they cover from about 3k up through about six. Most folks will tell you to ditch your k&n filter but it's normally sorted with a couple of washers

up the pilot jet size to 48 - sorted.

http://www.wemoto.com
99103KAE0480 Honda Jet,slow,#48 *u £ 6.27 £ 5.34

dont bother with the model search, scroll down and enter the bold part number into the oem part number search.
they take about a week tho. with the standard (45) pilot jet you can set it so the screw's hanging out & it'll still be too lean with k&n plus decent cans.
make sure you have no airleaks around the airbox and inlet rubbers, and that all the vacuum hoses are in good nick & not leaking

*same type pilot jet as the cr230 & 400 - http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/model_ye ... lies/16141
there's a million different styles of pilot jets but if you look at the diagram above, (it's a totally different carb but has same type of jets) select the size you want and do a oem search on wemoto
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Problem sorted, no flat spots, pulls cleanly from under 2k well pleased. :D

Took the easy option, popped down to my local Honda dealer and purchased a genuine air filter.

Anyone want a cheap, little used K&N ?
