couple of questions

Post by sepia »

hi guys & dolls.

will a cracked mirror fail a mot.my right hand one is.top to bottom but nearer the outer side.

i think my carbs were set for the sports cans that were on bike.i have standard ones.how can i tell.bit sluggish on take off & not as smooth as i think should be.feel them working through seat/tank?.worth getting dyno test.

also havnt done anything about ccts yet.got balls but not big enough to do it myself, lol.got replaced @ 19,000 & done 14,000 since then.could i have a lucky bike that will get away with out using manuel ones.took bike twos up to skye a week agofor a wee holiday & was ok(sure i seen a yellow storm heading north to skye last sunday?).my local garage fair priced for repairs.got new rear pads & disc fitted £70 all in.guy said can fit ccts for £35(i supply).he wont touch manuel ones.even after telling him yous swear by them.

soz havnt been on sit much as been away & busy, plus my pc slow & use girlfriends when can.

cheers steve.

Mirror:
Don't think so, some car ones have two or more facets to them, same effect, surely?

Re CCT's, £35 is too cheap, he won't be setting the engine at the correct place, just unbolting and refitting and hoping.
DON'T CHANCE IT!

If you replaced your CCT's at 19,000 and have done 14,000 since then then you're revving it too high. Mine redlines at 10,000.

thanks tony.

garage charges £35 per hour, will ask if does it proper, lol.

what do you mean by reving to high.you saying im not thrashing it enough, lol.got 125mph 2 up @ one point on way to skye, then a bend turned up from knowhere.was the private road to skye i took, lol.

ive read all the write ups on ccts & yous make it sound easy.dont think ive had enough big biking to try it.only been on big bikes for a year.

Oh dear.
If I have to explain them they're not funny.

You quoted 19 and 14 thousand; I chose to interpret this as RPM not miles.

Just ignore me.

But re CCT's, if you follow the instructions TO THE LETTER on here, (not in the Haynes Manual) you can't go wrong.
Suggest you get a friend to read it out to you as your'e doing it, and tick off each section as you complete it.

I agree, I did mine a couple of months ago too. If I managed to do them then anyone can. The instructions are spot on. It will also give you the chance to check your valve clearences too.

I have not had any probs either.

Where about are you Sepia? might be other members close by that could help.

hi jazzscot.
im in aberdeen.but am mostly down dundee most weekends(while bike gets me there..)think there is a guy in tayport(near dundee) who think did his own ccts, but cant find where i saw it.

bike has been running abit rough last few days.i keep getting a burring noise.dont hear it when clutch goes in or in neutral when reving.if was ccts would the rattle be there if clutch was pulled in.could be carbs needing set or valves causing this noise.yous say sounds like stick on push bike wheel if ccts.would yous say it could also sound like a burring noise.ive had this noise for 3 0r 4 months but worse last few weeks.if was ccts would i of got 1500miles driving in last few months.

have a mate in dundee who has a bike mechanic comes round to do his bikes as homers.have got in touch with him to see if can help me,wating for reply.

i have had a look at diy ccts, but few things i think would struggle with.im a quick learner if shown how to do things 1st.

ps.any better for bike using super unleded, has it a higher octane level.

thanks steve

The burring noise you talk about sounds to me like the clutch rattle that a lot of members have. However if you are still using stock cct's I replace them to give you piece of mind.

Im in Kirkcaldy and I did mine no probs

had clutch rattle since day 1.its a diff noise from that.just wish i knew what vtrs sounded like before so could tell if something was up.the bike sounds great in neutral & revs ok.just when driving the noise appears.is better when bike warms up & when driving a good distance.

what im trying to find out is if ccts rattle only when in gear & driving or would you hear it when in nuetral.if you do hear it in nuetral then dont think it is my ccts & i then think its my carbs needing set.thats what im hoping, lol.

been to kirkcaldy a few times in my scooter & northern soul days.know a lot of the wild turkey scooter club boys.

Hi dude
Its the CCT had the front one sound like for a while Chris (sirch345) Gave me hand to fit a new one with the stoper mod .Sounds like a playing card in a bicycle wheel and disapears when the clutch is pulled in also only seems to happen below 3000rpm :Beer Popcorn:

manual ccts on route.

just noticed the other day that my front tyre wearing more on right side(when sitting on bike).was wandering what caused it,but remember a few months ago that a couple of kids were looking @ speedo(school kids pass my work & bike on pavement).i now think they were turning the knobs(yokes?) on top of forks.

how do i level them out.do they turn to a certain point then stop.as in can i turn them both to that certain point & then even them up.would this of made me think handlebars were off center.

cheers steve.

Not just roundabouts! Left hand bends are shorter than their equivalent right handers, so the right side of the tyres rack up a higher mileage than the left - that's my conclusion, as I get asymetrical wear and don't do many roundabouts.
