Tank Range

Post by Growler »

Dunno if i'm riding my Firestorm like miss daisy, 80-90 on motorways 70+ on singlelanes, but i am getting 170-180 miles per tank and when i fill her up im putting in 12-13 ltrs.  When i got the bike i was told that you're be lucky to get 110-120 to the tank, is it me or do they have a better range than people think?? :D :D

One other point my Storm has 6 gears and i thought that they only had 5. I counted the changes at least 5 times just to make sure, again is this standard

Hi,

No they are all six speed.

I have a 2001 model with a 19ltr tank and I ride pretty steady and I can't get more than 100 miles before hitting reserve.

Are you sure the bike hasnt had a gearing change which would make the odometer out ?

Errr thats much too good, I get 110 miles at the red light and about 12l to fill it [fast ish road use, down to 70miles on the tarck], so have you checked it is a Firestorm, not a BMW GS?

Only thing I can think is you may have non standard gearing and speedo & odo are reading high, but it would have to be 30%+ change in gearing so it sound too much.

You must have the smoothest throttle wrist in the UK

ah youve got one of them kmh ones lol, thats why!
same as, with a 19L tank, filling up 13-14L a time, i get about 100 / 110 before the light but thats with the sensor off a 16L tank, theres at least a gallon left when the light comes on.

if i'm caning the butt off it, it's down to 80 odd.
wouldnt say theyre particularly bad on fuel, my 750 is the same.

Yeah its an EU import, but i'm sure that its only a 16l tank as i've almost run it empty twice and still only got 14 litres in. Ive done 330 miles and put in 24 litres, i calculate that this works out to 60+ mpg.!!!!

It must be counting kilometres. 170/1.5 is about 120 which is still high, but more normal.

I get 90 before light every time, but I commute in town every day and ride like an butt. On long journeys I get 120 before light

If i ride around town then i get 90ish before the light comes on, since i've discovered the 6th gear it's made a massive difference to my tank range

If your bike is an import the trip meter could still be in Kilometres, but the speedo face might have a MPH sticker over it. 170Km =106miles which is "normal" for a VTR

Just a thought

Stop worrying.

it's like going shopping.
If you fancy the steak and salmon fondue fricassee, buy it.
if you look at the price, it won't taste as good.

SO just fill it up when when it asks you and ride it.
Same as every other bike.

The rest is just numbers, like age.
Don't matter, it's how you feel, not what number's attached.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

the best tank range imo is in Edington, Wiltshire
51° 13' 58.12" N 2° 6' 53.76" W

When i first got mine the best i could get was around 90 to the tank ,then a few weeks ago i filled the tank when the light of doom came on and headed out on a all day ride out , this time i got 120 before the light came on, i wasn't hacking it all the time, and some legs of the journey were 40 odd mile on dual carriageways at a steady pace.

Was quite happy with that.
