I've recently bought a 9k mile 1997 firestorm and after a ride out I turned the bike off to start it again and battery was nearly flat. Managed to get her going again after a jump start. Bought new battery to solve the problem. Happened again today in Bridlington and got rescue out as it went again. Been told it might be a rectifier problem. When running it's trickle charging just over 12v. Took rectifier off to clean it as connections were rusty and poor earth. Anyone had anything similar. Don't want to buy new one if it's not needed.
Thanks
Craig
Rectifier?
Re: Rectifier?
Hey Bobby, welcome to the forum. The rectifier is a known weak spot on the storm. If its the old unfinned type you have it sounds like its fecked.
I have done the R1 mod on mine which is talked about here often. Just do a search on the forum. Or have a look here http://vtr1000f.wickidnet.com/

Re: Rectifier?
or get the later finned and much bigger r/r off a cb1100 or similar, fits the original plug.
make sure you clean them connectors up.
get it sorted asap - apparently when the r/r & battery fails & you keep trying to start it on a low charge, it will kick back & crouton up the sprags in the starter clutch.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Rectifier?
Thanks for the advice, I'll sort the mod out or at least get something bigger with fins with possibly same plug fitting. Will any year r1 or r6 fit?

Re: Rectifier?
I think you will need to cut some wires to fit an r6 / r1 rectifier

Re: Rectifier?
yep that will fit the plug and will most probably line up with the mounting holes as well
