Swingarm Bobbins

Post by VooDooChris »

Hi,

My VTR has swingarm bobbins for use with a paddock stand, but all the other VTR's I've seen (admittedly I've only seen a handful) don't have them. Not only that, they don't appear to have holes for the bobbins to screw in to. Does this mean:

A) My bikes got an after market swing arm?
B) Some VTR's came with bobbins/holes for bobbinsand I've just not seen any yet?
C) A previous owner has bodged them on and I should get rid of the dangerous death trap before the back end falls apart? :o)

Seriously, do some VTR's come with bobbins/holes for bobbins?

Cheers

Mornin VC,

I've not seen paddock bobbins on any Storm as standard but others have fitted them. Like this:

I lift regularly with an Abba stand. Brilliant. http://www.abbastands.co.uk/

Did you once work at Prestige in Fulham?

No, they're not standard but it's an easy mod. The swing arm's only three to four mil thick, so I'd recommend using M8 fine bolts.

You could go all the way through and secure with a backnut, but they're fine just drilled in through the outer side skin.

Search in the workshop section for pics and where to drill.
Just make sure you have exhaust clearance at full shock compression if you have aftermarket exhausts.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks for all the comments.

Given what's been said here, I might use the bobbins for oiling the chain, but use the cups if the bikes going to be stood for a while.

Cheers

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
