Winter bike protection

Riding through the winter, last year i had a treatement done by a nice bloke called roy at http://www.allyearbiker.co.uk involving a treatment with acf-50.

This year a bit skint, so what do you do to help protect the bike overwinter? Anybody used acf-50 from an aerosol and if so, how far does one can go?

aerosol chain grease everywhere, except the discs & seat lol.... let it dry, let the sh1t stick to it, hot wash it off in spring, new bike underneath.

Whale oil, lanolin*, vasoline or goose fat

goose fat from Highgrove Food Distribution (Tel 01793 852277). It's about ten quid for a 2.5 kg tub.

seeing as lanolin is extracted from sheepskin, there's probably a few here who've had their tools coated in a thin film of it on the quiet...

That acf50 is very expensive and dosent last long, may I suggest as a new person here the above, after a run spray your bike off spray this all over the metal and everything that corrodes not discs obviously, as it dries it leaves a film which protects your metal. get a gallon now, about £27 and it will last a whole winter.

I'm going to give Duck Oil a try this year as I have 5 ltrs of the stuff.

I'll let you know how it goes. Not much help for you for this winter though unless anyone else has used it.

acf-50 is expensive, although they reckon it lasts. £14 odd quid for a spray is a lot though.

Will give the ScottOil stuff a go, or chain grease and no sheep round here worth a sniff.

my solution is much lazier!

Fill with Petrol, wash and dry & polish, then put road bike in garage on an ABBA stand, cover in blankets, put on optimate charger.

Go to work in car

Ride trials on sundays to justify being an all weather biker............transport in a van to keep the salt off the rapid rusting Spanish metal, is also a good tip.

After winter I strip off the blankets and it is like new

Mind you - was checking out a cheapo winter bike, not much around. 12 years ago there were zillions of 175s, 250 traillies XLs, MTXs, DTs, KEs etc etc - bugger all now.

I used ACF last winter and it kept the bike loking nice. Cost me a foooookin fortune though! The can does last and it stays on the bike for ages. Even in the snow etc it was lasting a week or so!
This year I'm just gonna go for generic corrosion protection spray stuff and just wash it more often...the wallet wont stretch to ACF again! You gotta think that a Pro Bolt full replacement kit is 150 quid, the equivalent of say ten cans of ACF.

I used ACF50 on my Pan last year. Worked very well .... will apply it to the Storm to help preserve it. Trouble is I bought this bike as the sacrificial offering
