Fuel injection possibilities....

Post by tony.mon »

As the Varadero engine is basically the same it seems possible to take the VTR-based bits (cams, 6-speed cluster, etc) and add them to a XL1000 (later FI model) engine.
The throttle bodies are only 42mm, but any carb-FI conversion usually drops inlet diameter a little, so that should still work.
The main reason is that it would then be much easier to map for nitrous or a turbo.

At the moment this is just blue-sky thinking, but has anyone seen any info on this being done?
I trawled Superhawk and the Varadero sites; lots of people discussed it but I can't find any that have actually done it (or tried and failed!).

Although it would probably be possible to fit the Vara FI onto a Storm engine I'm thinking that the various sensorsa re already in place in the Vara lump, so it would be easier to just fit VTR parts to the XL engine than the other way round.
The heads might need some work either way; Vara heads would have the inlets ported to suit the 42mm bodies but will have cam sensors already in place, but the VTR heads would come with the larger valves already fitted.

Much more thinking and planning before I hit E-Bay, I feel!
All contributions/thoughts/comments gratefully received.

toyed with this idea myself tony, and fitting bigger carbs but like you say, it's a hell of a lot of work and is an unknown entity.... you'd need a vara ecu as well and lambda sensor in the exhaust.
i'm sure i saw somewhere that the facility is there to add the sensors in the storm engine as the mounts are already there, drilled & tapped inside the castings.... suggesting that honda had possibly considered fi in a future vtr model?

would be superb if you could get it sorted tho - i reckon strip a vara motor alongside a storm engine and see what can be swapped about.
can't be that many differences eh?

Chap by the name of gbozieo (sp?) did his with FI during his turbo conversion. As well, a fellow named Shayne (on Superhawk forum, but mostly on the Ozfirestorm site) is working on converting his to FI. Check out both sites as there are some lengthy and quite detailed discussions on both projects.

cheers

Forget injection MODEL:352T41-461 carbs from Allensperformance.co.uk. Injection still can't fuel like a set of these.

Hard to tell if they're good for that price- here's a product review from the site:
As well as I can be easily installed, one could start from.In the valley there are three shifts a thousand times, it exceeds over feeling ~ ~ ~ ~ Chii speed! This is scary place.I thought I should have bought sooner.I am looking forward to going out to the valley setting filled c'mon now!

Three shifts a thousand times, eh?
Tried moving the gear lever nearer your foot?
