Hi all,
I am looking into purchasing a 99 Superhawk 996 and I have got a few questions. I actually never considered riding one of these till i sat on one. I am 6'7" and this is the first bike that i have sat on and actually fit. I have owned a few other bikes starting with a tiny 600F3 and a Zuki GSXr750. Now i am looking into the superhawk, it has 14k miles on it yosh pipes and in almost mint condition. Normal wear and tear. How comprible is this bike to lets say the GSXR 750? Is the weight of the bike a bigger issue? I am used to throwing around 360 -vs- the superhawk 4+
This bike is at a dealer and they are asking $6000. That seems to be a bit high since they are only $9000 new. Do they hold there value much more then a supersport bike? and one last question, whats approx top speed?
few questions........
Where are you located? I wouldnt say they hold their value better than anything else. I have a 98 model in mint condition that I had in the paper for $6500 for about 10 months, and only got 1 phone call. Street value is probably $4500 max. I'll never sell it if that's the case. It's to good of a bike to take a beating like that on.
Top speed? I've been 150ish, and felt somewhat comfortable. Didnt feel like it was going to come apart or anything. Personally, I'm about to sacrifice my top end for some more on the bottom.
FWIW, I've had mine since 2001, and I still love it just as much. It's as close to the perfect bike as I've found. I've wanted a RC51 here lately, but I'm not gonna sell the superhawk for the kind of loss I can expect. I'm thinking with a set of pipes, jet kit, up 2 on the rear, and maybe a better windscreen, this could be the perfect bike.
