not a firestorm question, just a general engine one!
A mate of mine has bought a r6 track bike, he has had it running for 5 minutes and water has started pissing out the coolant expansion (think thats what he said) - any one had experience of something like this? could it be the cylinder head?

Re: not a firestorm question, just a general engine one!
had this on a car once turned out to be the thermostat, do bikes have thermostats?
98% of all Harleys ever sold are still on the road. The other 2% made it home

Re: not a firestorm question, just a general engine one!
think i do! ill let him know, i had a thermostat go on my car once and that then allowed the head gasket to go, bugger!

if its just a track bike it might have a manual switch for the fan, ive bought a couple of track bikes in the past and both had this done?

Re: not a firestorm question, just a general engine one!
Let it cool, and try again.
I fit's the cyl head gasket, then it'll start to overflow again immediately, even when cold.
If it only does it when hot, then it's the coolant circuit.
Check the coolant bottle and pressure cap for oil, and the oil for coolant.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: not a firestorm question, just a general engine one!
might be that it has no proper coolant, just tapwater.
proper coolant has a much higher boiling point whereas tapwater will be bubbling its butt off at a normal running temp of 105c ish.
roll up a taper of bog roll and soak some coolant up, see what colour it is & what smell...
pukka bike coolant will most probably be bright orange or blue or summat.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
