CCT Shopping list

Post by geodude »

Just bought some Manuals off Rider on a storm and am putting together a shopping list of stuff needed to do the job.

From the instructions I have deduced that I need the following:

Masking tape + Pen
8 mm open end spanner
Screwdriver
Spark plug tool - What one is best as the one I got from Heine gericke was the right size for the plug but not the chamber.
Alan keys - Sizes?
Socket and tee bar - Sizes?
Thread lock - Best type?
Gasket cement (loctite 222 or 243)

Thanks in advanced

Geo,
best plug tool is the one in the toolkit.......get a kit off e-bay
Alan keys - errr dont you have a full set, that would be best in long run....... but it is 5mm for the CCTs, 6mm for the small inspection cover and 10mm for the big one?
Socket and tee bar - A 1/4" set is good for taking off the tank and cam covers, 8 and 10mm
Thread lock - Best type? Loctite 222 or similar thread lock..........dont use studlock it is to strong
Gasket cement - blue hylomar

Also good to measure the setting on the CCT's you take out, and for that you need to make the little key to lock them in position....... that is shown in haynes manual

Given your lack of tools you might want to plan to attend workshop day!

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

Thank you for your kind offer. I may just take you up on that :)

The only things I don't have are

Spark plug tool
t-bar
thread lock and gasket cement and the key thingy from the haynes manual lol

So I can get them np. There isn't anything else is there?

Also, you can use them with a torque wrench - a good investment :D

Thanks :)

Managed to loosen the small inspection cap but the large one wont budge. I've thrown a load of releaser oil at it. Hopefully that'll help when I try today.

Any tips if that fails?

i found this but i still dont know where to take the measurement from

Just stick a small screwdriver into the CCT and then hold it in place while you extract it, you'll need to have slackened off the mounting bolts first.
Measure it once it's out, and set the manual one to just under the same length.

But my own method is to take off the rear cam cover (you have to anyway so that you know that your engine is at the right place in its cycle) and then feel how tight the adjuster bolt feels when set to 5-10mm slack in the chain.
Then et the front one to the same tension.
Fine tune by adjusting it with the engine running and set it between too slack and too tight.
Too tight and it will squeal on startup, too slack and it will rattle.((((

measure on the top run, between the sprockets.
You'll have to remove the chain guard/guide to get to it, don't lose the bolts down the cam chain tunnel.......

And use a 17mm socket on the crank bolt to turn the engine.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Try a hot air paint stripper gun, the cool the inspection cap while the alternator cover is still hot, then tw@ it with big hammer and centre punch. Druift it round in the undoing direction.
