Heat Wrapping

Post by bazza696 »

As anyone here done any heat wrapping, and if so did you manage to do it whilst the zorst was on the bike.

I know that i will have to at least remove the swingarm to get to the rear header.

does anyone have any pictures.

Done a few car headers before (my kitcar included). Not a bad job, but can be messy. Cant help with anything VTR specific, but can offer the following...

Make sure you are covered fully, its itchy stuff.

Soak it in water for 10mins before applying. That way it will shrink onto the exhaust and stay tight as it dries. Once its on, run the engine to dry it off, but steer clear of the steam/smoke its a bit stinky.

Use stainless jubilee clips either end to secure it. The tie wraps are rubbish and wont hold it tight

Overlap it half its width, so you end up with double thickness.

Its very effective at reducing the heat. so much so you can grab the header with your hand and it wont burn.

Just my 2p worth anyway.
