Front Sprocket change

Post by geodude »

How silly is it to change a front sprocket late in the life of a chain?

I'd like to see what its like having 1 less tooth on the front so when I have the cash to replace the whole lot, I can make an informed decision if ya get me.

George, An ideal time to check a smaller sprocket out if the chain is almost done

Personally I prefer a bigger rear (+2 teeth) sprocket, as this means the chain won't be having to work that much harder with a tighter radius that a smaller front will be giving it.

How many teeth is the standard rear?

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Cool thanks. Ive already ordered the 15t from Wemoto. It was the cheaper option

I may get a 43t next month and compare the 3 options. 15:41 15:43 16:43

use http://www.gearingcommander.com to compare the gearing....

load your bike then scroll down to see the different gearing options and the speeds at various rpm.
also handy to calibrate your speedo if you get an overlay sticker off ebay ;)
