I've done mine, and there's a bit more to it than that.
The short bolt on the rh end is ok, just drill and tap M8, but it bloody hard metal!

But the other end is a hollow tube, and so you'll need to either machine up an aluminium blank to go i the tube, held in by two cap heads through the holes in the tube ends (have a look and you'll see what I mean), or what I've done, which is to jam a length of rubber in with a hole drilled up the middle.
Then counterbore the internal end, and fit a nut in.
When you tighten the bolt up it pulls the nut in, squeezing the rubber and locking it in place.

I have a spare wheel bolt somewhere.... bought it so that mine wasn't off the road while i was bodging.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
