New bike.. What to do with it?

Post by Dthomp87 »

Hey everybody, new member here. just picked up a 1998 vtr1000f for 1950usd$ (which I think is a deal although a bit curious if it really is) noticed mostly europeans on this forum I see the word "mate" thrown around a lot lol. the bike runs great just had a 2002 engine put in it. Love the sound. So much more powerful than my last bike (gsf400) I love it. Love the v twin. I think its running rich it's backfiring a bit, not sure how it's jetted, also doesn't have much power below 3.3k.. Looks like it used to be a track bike. I like the colors but the paint needs to be re-done completely :( but at least Ill get to choose the colors.

I'm also considering striping it naked.(just the front fairings off) and go for a street fighter look. But that's just a thought.. I really like the naked look with those radiators. What would that do for the resale price? Not sure how long I'll be keeping it yet. but for now I love the bike.

For paint I'm just going to take my time with some quality metallic rattle cans then take it to get a professional clear coat. Anyone done anything like this?

Interesting cutouts on the fairings, and what front end is fitted?
Looks like usd's, and I think it's a late model with 19l tank?

Anyway, for part numbers have a look at the microfiches in the sticky (top) threads in Workshop.
And hi...
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

not sure about the front end
Muffler is Harding rt-one, haven't checked out the filter or the gearing yet

Want to get the seat done, it looks too plain for my taste, I like stitching. And it feels like the steering tube er steering bearings not sure what it's called (headset on a bicycle) is a little lose is this a pain in the butt to fix? Maybe I should put a more comfortable handle bar on there while I'm at it, but I figure I'll just try these bars out for s bit and see how I like them.

and for the cut outs I presume you mean graphics? I'm not diggin them, why I want to paint the bike, also whoever did the clear coat didnt do it right it's chipping off.

Two nations seperated by a common language, and then Marty chucks a bit of ryhming slang in to confuse the poor old septic. Outrageous.

Well shine a light! ha, to be honest I've never even heard of rhyming slang before(consider that I live in Austin tx), but I think it's my new favorite thing. I'll keep my cockney slang translator handy.
