Next mod?

Post by mik_str »

Greeting from across The Pond :)

I just sold my DT200R (lovely bike but I had no time to use it). As a result, I am open to spending a bit of the money on another mod for the VTR. As some of you know, my VTR is already pretty "modded out" and the list of possible options is not quite as long as it once was. Anyone have a suggestion for me?

Points to ponder:
- would like a USD front end but my current set-up works quite well (GV kit, all aluminum triples, carbon fender,....) and allows me to retain my lightweight magnesium PVM wheel so I think I will stick with the current fork set-up
- while the EBC 320mm rotors I have on now work quite well, I have wondered about (selling them off) replacing them with a set of Braketech rotors (likely the Cobra SS version as the iron would be too prone to rusting) mated to a set of ZCOO pads (very highly touted by those hwo have tried them)
- I would love to shed some pounds with a lightweight subframe and/or fairing stay; such subframes are non-existent from what I have seen and the Graves fairring stay I had could not be used with the headlight so that is out too
- a carbon tank would be nice but the only one that sems ok is the ETI unit and its larger capacity makes it look bulbous; it is also un-Godly expensive and would need to be painted to boot (more $$$$$)

so there you go, fire away my fellow Stormers......

Hi Mick,

Your bike is fully sorted IMO.... some advanced riding training or track days? That's the only thing that will make it go faster...
No bike (yet).

Thanks for the input.

FWIW, I already have a few courses under my belt (one for street riding, one for track, although that by no means infers I have no room for improvement, quite the contrary....). My goal is not so much to ride faster (ride on the street; need to keep my driving privileges and don`t want to kill myself, I have a 3 year-old daughter to care for). I would love to indulge in track days but have no time at teh moment. If I end up doing so, I will ikely buy a bike and turn it into a dedicated track bike (have too much invested in my VTR to risk crashing it on a track). I am just looking to fine-tune it some more, increase the grin factor....

cheers

You've fettled with the chassis and engine - what about some new light weight Mario Nava carbon bodywork
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Gotta go Nitrous.
You don't have to use it, just knowing it's there would be enough.

Seen the Holley vee twin conversion?
Looks pretty straightforward, and actually you don't need the whole kit, just buy the hard-to-get bits separately, such as the solenoids and injectors, the rest is just pipes and wires, and an old fuel pump.

Oh, and a lovely shiny nitrous bottle to bolt somewhere very visible........
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

not sure there is much left for you to do, your bike is fairly special already..............BUt I would suggest the following:

1) Mairo Nova carbon bodywork
2) bespoke lightweight rear subframe...aluminium, or get very special and get a bespoke integrated Carbon seat / subframe
3) Carbon wheels [not sure on what saving over the magnesium ones you have]
4) Ohlins USD front end
5) if you then go crazy could you have some magnesium crank cases and covers made in low volume
6) supercharger

I think I may have over estimated the value of your DT200 :D

otherwise some new renthal grips might be all you can afford

I said one DT, not a dozen, lol

The Nava carbon bodywork would be a very nice addition. I imagine it`s quite pricey, however, not to mention of cost of getting it shipped here.....

cheers

adjustable vacuum relief valves to up the corner entry speed, help the engine's breathing and fine tune the engine braking to your taste....
the ones i have are only 1/8" port and i would like to try some larger ones.... but then seeing as they connect to the vacuum tubes from the inlet, i cant really see much gain from a bigger valve.

fitted in the airbox, under the airfilter (so they breathe cleaned air), when you roll off the throttle and the engine creates a high vacuum, the valve opens and draws air into the inlet and allows the engine to coast.
the carb slides need only -20 mbar to operate and atm i have mine set at -80mbar so the engine braking is still there, but feels more like an IL4 off throttle.
no more back end hopping about when i drop 2 or more gears for a fast bend....

the ones i got are easily adjustable by turning a screw (or adding shims inside) and list at £42 each, though i get a 50% discount on them :biggrin
they transformed the way the bike delivers power imo in conjunction with the cams & porting and makes it sooo much fun to ride in fast twisties :biggrin

is a thread on them here somewhere....

 you'd be better off piping your farts into the airbox than wasting hard earned on one of them lol

& yes mik. will do.
have a look here tho m8 http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... ef#p136715

regarding your earlier question "I would certainly love to try something like this if it works and does not cause a problematic lean condition..."

they wont make the mixture lean as they only come into play when the throttle is closed, hence the vacuum.
if the throttle was open the engine would be producing power so the valves will not operate.
they only open when the engine creates a high vacuum on over-run.
