Paranoia Redlines

Post by Gash sniffa »

Had the VTR a couple of weeks now and as you do, read the stuff you need to know about the new love of your life. Some say "too much information.....etc etc".
Well, reading about catastrophic vavle/head damage due to cct failure, conrods parting with pistons because of piston slap, etc. has kind of got me ..er...well... shitin myself!
I now find myself listening for strange tell tale noises that may well not exist. Or do they?
Dont realy want to pussy foot around but could really do without destroying the new toy.
The bikes only done 7000miles, but it is 11years old.
Is manual cct's the first thing to do?
Am i going mad?....again. :?

I know how you feel mate and I havent even taken delivery of mine yet. lol

I bought one with stop mod already done but if I'd bought a fully standard bike, based on what i've read, manual CCT would have been the first thing on my list.

If its had a 'stop mod' done, how does it differ from fitting manuals? Is it the O/E thats been modded?
I need to learn this new language!
And WHO THE F*** IS ROGER????

You can't unless you take the CCTs out - if you've got the bike recently and don't know the history then assume it hasn't been modded

For everything you are afraid to ask about CCTs then go here:

Try it out!
Enter your website's URL and a sample search query - and see Google Site Search in action for your website.

http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/sitesearch/index.html

Enter a site URL: http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/

Query: cct

Click search > make yourself comfy with a cuppa then afterwards search for regulator/rectifier....
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Fit manual CCT's. My original ones went but only at 35,000 miles.
Fit a revised Rectifier. My original one went at 40,000 miles.
Fit a replacement rear shock. I have a Hagon
Get the front forks resprung or done by Roger. I just had progressive springs fitted and use 10wt fork oil.
Drop the forks about 5 mm through the yokes.

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Thanks Stratman.. much appreciated
The rear shock on mine has been spaced so would dropping the forks be pushing the rake a bit too far??
