May well have been answered before but cannot find it.
I have manual CCT's already fitted when I aquired the bike. Noise wise there is no squealing but i do hear a mild tapping sound coming from the cam covers. Not having another bike to compare sounds I am unable to figure if they need to be adjusted again. Maybe I am being paranoid and could someone tell me that even the best adjusted CCT's will still emit some degree of noise??
Next part. If I need to re-adjust them is best to do it when the engine is hot or cold & while the engine is running or stopped??
Manual CCT question
Re: Manual CCT question
VTR' s are rattly bikes anyway, but if your getting a rattle then the cct's may need adjusting. When I adjusted mine i did it whilst the bike was running, but you could tweak it 1/4 turn at a time then start the bike after each adjustment and see if it silences them.
Re: Manual CCT question
One thing I did forget to mention the bike has reached 18K +. I reckon I should be thinking of getting the valves done. Not sure if the previous owner had them checked.
Re: Manual CCT question
The rear cylinder valve clearences are a doddle, the front is a cow to do. But they are worth doing for peaceably of mind, did mine the beginning of the year, and adjusted my ccts at the same time.
I think I will check mine again if I need to take the front end off again to fit head bearings.or fork work, as I will be removing most of the bits I need to get to the front head.
