Soft front forks?

Post by Griff1977 »

Just received my new VTR (2002) and all is good. The only niggle I have is that the front forks might be a bit spongy- even when manoeuvring in the garage they seem soft.

Is this something anyone else has found/might it be a normal occurrence with a 9 yr old bike? :?

Change the fork oil. I did on mine and it made a massive difference. After 9 years its worth a strip and check anyway.....

Barry. Thanks. Got a mobile mechanic coming tomorrow so I'll see what he can do. Griff.

They need stronger springs as well as oil change. Most use 7.5wt oil 140mm air gap.

Progressive springs are about £90 from wemoto.... I have to say this is the best mod you can do to the Firestorm , so don't be put off by the cost, and it then let's you put a 6mm spacer under the shock to get it to turn in faster
