Wirth's worth it?
Wirth's worth it?
Are Wirth progressive springs worth the extra over Hagon’s offering?
Usage is purely commuting and progressive/spirited riding for pleasure on Her Majesty’s highways. So what’s the considered opinion from those in the know?
I have searched but there is little if any direct comparisons, but many opinions stating that the Wirths are excellent and Hagons are rubbish (with a few saying that they’re very good). The proviso is that budget is everything, so £20 is a big deal.
Many thanks.

I fitted hyperpro springs to mine and they are the dogs danglies. They were cheaper than hagon by about £30 at the time. Any aftermarket progressive spring is going to be a big improvement over standard as long as you set your suspension up for your weight. With better springs the adjustments you make actually make a difference.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!
Re: Wirth's worth it?
I have WP springs in mine, but if I were buying new I'd take the Hyperpro ones. They come as a set with oil of your choice, and if you factor that cost in they're not expensive.
You'll notice the difference straight away, big improvement.
I've fitted a few sets for members on here, everyone seems impressed with them.
The main criticism for hagons seems to be the finish, but they're going to be hidden away from view, so I can't see (!) how that makes a difference, really.
If you're going for bling, it should be on show, don't you think?
USD's it is, then.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Wirth's worth it?
Many thanks to everyone for all the input.
Well I’ve taken onboard all the various views and I’ve ordered the Hagon’s. The reason being is purely based on price, they’re £62 compared to £92 for the Wirths and then the Hyperpros are about £120.
Yes I am being tight but I’ve coped with standard springs and potentially ‘sludge’ for oil since buying the Storm last November, and therefore going on the idea that the Hagon’s must surely be an improvement, the lower price is very attractive. With the Hyperpros at nearly double the cost, would they really be nearly double the performance?
I seem to recall somewhere that the general opinion is that the Hagons are ‘roughly finished’ (as mentioned in this thread by tony.mon also), but also that their quality has improved somewhat over the recent past, and so I’ll take a photo of them before they’re installed for reference.
Once again many thank to all who took the time to offer their opinion, it really is most appreciated.

Re: Wirth's worth it?
as i said, i just bought a hagon shock and the finish seems very good, if you are at all worried about the finish, for £25 on ebay you can buy a r&g shock tube to protect it, i have a rear hugger so hopefully this will keep the shock clean, but if i notice the shocks finish getting scruffy then i'll get a shock tube myself, let us know how you get on with it matey.....

Re: Wirth's worth it?
Exactly my thoughts, I have a Hagon shock with a remote adjuster mounted so I can reach it while riding, covered by a Shocktube.bigspanishmarty wrote:as i said, i just bought a hagon shock and the finish seems very good, if you are at all worried about the finish, for £25 on ebay you can buy a r&g shock tube to protect it, i have a rear hugger so hopefully this will keep the shock clean, but if i notice the shocks finish getting scruffy then i'll get a shock tube myself, let us know how you get on with it matey.....
The Shocktube needs to be pulled up whenever I want to adjust the damping, but other than that it does what I want it to.
Only thing with the Hagon adjustable rear is that there are no detents, or "clicks", so you can't easily adjust it when carrying a pillion and put it back to exactly where it was, you have to count the turns. But frankly that's no biggie, as I can count.
I've fitted a fair number of front springs, and as I said, the Hyperpro is the one that feels plush right from the off, standard settings etc.
I usually "test" each bike I fit with springs along the same bit of road, which seems a fair comparison. But you won't be disappointed with any springs you an buy as an improvement over standard, it's really only on the track that you could tell them apart.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
