Never been pulled for loud exhausts while riding the storm for over decade. MOT tester raises a quizzical eyebrow - Pulled for speeding, etc and as long as everything else is in order i.e no. plate is the correct size etc all you'll get is compliments on the nice Dambusters like tone and an SP30...
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

i was stopped a couple of weeks ago for wearing a gold visor or so i though it was..they then produced a DB metre from their boot, set it up and lifted the rpm upto 3000,it measured 110.2db...thinking quick i pushed into a parking space and waited for them to tell me it was too loud,as the nice policeman started to talk i pointed out that they'd tested it in the street between a bus station and a row of parked cars which was only 12-15 feet from a building which would make it louder, after some more looking around they asked me to move it into a carpark across the road so they could retest it, when i refused the nice policeman got shirty and started to look round the bike, finding my rear tyre was below the wear limit he looked and laughed at me and grabbed his book to which i told him it was booked in for it changing and i was on my way there when he stopped me and dialed the shop number and gave him my phone, after talking for a minute he handed me my phone and told me to "f*ckoff out of his sight".....it must of been a day for checking bikes becoz i headed over to squires to scrub the new tyre in and found 8-10 lads telling the same story

What a nice copper you had there;)

Were you really on the way to get a new tyre or did the shop really help you out?

When I got stopped for treating the Queens highway as my personal test track I was told the Met would never pull you for loud pipes as "Harley riders get away with it, why shouldn't everyone else?" Also told me that the main reason was that there isn't anywhere in London quiet enough to do the test. They would have to take you to a field in the middle of nowhere, and that isn't going to happen.

There is a guy I sometimes see/hear round here who rides a IL4 with just headers, now thats LOUD :eek2

in general i like loud pipes and the only negatives are
1) long journeys - extra fatigue from the noise
2) you advertise your location and speed to any coppers, and you give them enough time to get ready for you.
3) pissing of your wife & neighbours at 6am when you go off on a run.

it was these reasons why i dumped the Microns I had on the bike 8yrs ago, and went to debaffled stock cans..........I got them to a good compromise between noise and too loud  ...........but they are still too heavy and they dont liberate all the potential of the storm  so I have now gone back to Viper race cans, but with the removable dB killers.

with the baffles in it is close to the debaffled stock cans [just a bit louder, but still lighter] and when I want to be loud and fast, it is just 2 screws to remove them. .

we had a thread running where we confirmed that the dB killers on e-bay for Viper cans will work on any other race can with the same inner diameter.

i like my microns because...
a) the standard pipes were too quiet
b) they sound gorgeous
c) they make the often blind car drivers look to see where the noise is coming from and stop them pulling out on me

my point for reasons (a) and (c)...i took my old z1000 out for a spin earlier in the year and called into morrisons for fuel and a woman(not being sexist,it just happened to be a woman) pulled straight out infront of me,when i asked her why,she told me she hadn't seen me...it had an 8in headlamp thats perminantly turned on,standard pipes and i was wearing a orange hi vis coat...so now it has a harris pipe fitted with not alot of wadding in it and surprise suprise no ones pulled out on me...

Most MET officers wont bother you about your loud exhaust. Its the speeding and front wheel up jobs that will get you.

However worst case scenario is a £30 ticket.

Normally they will look at other stuff on the bike, and believe me attitude when stopped has a lot of impact when stopped.

Go Loud, its true what others say be seen and HEARD as most numpty car drivers don't use the mirrors or the eyes they have been given.

no they just ruin your day by telling you it's going to rain :Ball Kick:
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Mines got some stubby danmoto Jisu ones.... They're loud!, I live about a mile from a police station and pass it daily on the way to work including having a few police cars and 1 van pull out behind me and follow behind me for a bit, never been stopped.
