handlebar conversion.........HELP

Post by eggy81 »

hi all
im going touring on my storm in july to spain etc etc! i want to put a conversion kit on for a more upright ride!!

Questions
1: can i drill and fix my own riser clamps to my existing yoke? is this safe?
2: will there be any need for getting longer cables etc?
3:what kind of bar diamater is best to get if the above is achiveable?
4: i am aware that i may have to chop the fairing about a bit! dont want to but if needs must!

many thanks! Andrew

hello and welcome
renthal ultra low bars 22mm £25 ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENTHAL-SUPER ... 3503wt_842
1"-2" risers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-pull-back-B ... _643wt_928
or
this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CNC-Top-Yoke- ... _857wt_928
cables will be fine
you can drill the top yoke but get the bars and risers first so you can see where to drill it is safe as long as you use thread lock
i have mine drilled atm untill i save up for a billet one

thats awesome! thanks so much! i was concerned about the safety side of things! ie; strength of the standard yoke because the ally is quite thin but if you recon its safe ill go for it!

You will need to make sure that you raise the bars high enough to clear the top of the suspension legs, one thing I found when I was converting mine was that normal risers weren't high enough. Think I went for 3" rise in the end.

1) Yes
2) No apart from the horn wire will need extending
3)Get the raisers and and see what size bolts they have
4)You'll have to trim the bits that look like ear lobes tight at the top of the fairing

I raised the bars on both of my storms. Angled bar raisers the first time and a top yolk the second. I would say the top yolk kit looked better but the bar raisers did just as good a job were cheaper and took less fidling to get the right riding position.

I have.
Just roll the bars to the clocks and you might have to rotate the switch gear a little so it clears

Read the sticky in the test area, and once you've got the hang of it all will be reviled.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
